BBC: Opening-up Water Data

27 October 2010

Martin Rosenbaum writes in his BBC Open Secrets blog about SmartSource Water's ongoing campaign to get the regional water companies to open up their data.

SmartSource Water brought a case to the Information Tribunal asking to force the Water Companies to allow access to their data under the Environmental Information Regulations. Several other groups and individuals are also fighting for access to the environmental information held by water companies, including Fish Legal (representing the Angling Trust), the Sunday Times and Emily Shirley (a leading environmental campaigner).

The regional water companies argue that they are not covered by these regulations because they are not public bodies.
